The Weekend

We had a pretty nice weekend. I had been hoping for rain as we desperately need it down here in Arkansas. Hopefully it will rain today. The rain is moving north from Louisiana.

My sister drove down from Indiana on Thursday after work and arrived a little after 1 am our time. I was exhausted by the time she got here and after showing her to the guest bedroom promptly went to my bed and crashed.

We took Eriks swimming at the pool on Friday afternoon. It was a lot of fun as there was no one in the pool!!! Just the 3 of us in this huge Olympic-sized pool. Oh, wait, there was one kind of weird guy there.

Saturday we took a 2 1/2 hour drive down to Crater of Diamonds State Park and went in search of diamonds! It was a lot of fun and we got a bit dirty doing it. We plan on going back this fall when the weather is cooler and more enjoyable to be outside in. We didn't find any diamonds of our own, but by the time we left that day 6 diamonds had been found by others. Now that we also know what we're doing and what exactly we're looking for it will be much more fun the next time around.

Sunday of course we watched the Indy 500. Hopefully next year I'll be home in Indy visiting family and will be able to go to the race. It's truly an awesome experience. I've only done it once (you'd think a girl born and raised a Hoosier would've been to the Indy 500 more than once in her life) a few years ago when the race was actually on my birthday. It was the year Buddy Rice won - Danica Patrick's rookie year where it seemed like the whole Speedway was rooting her on. The race was called at 180 some laps because of severe weather - a Tornado Warning in fact. We were soaking wet by the time we got to our car and we had an umbrella even. Umbrella's don't protect from rain that's coming at you sideways! Luckily we were OK but a tornado did hit the southside of Indy about 10 miles from the track.

My sister drove back to Indiana yesterday because she had to go to work today. But I'll see her again Thursday night when Eriks and I fly up to Indy for a 10 or so day stay. Lots of family activities going on the first 2 weekends of June!

Sounds like a fun ~busy~ weekend. I've never heard of the diamond park. That would be cool!
