Yesterday literally was the day from HELL. Don't plan on a repeat anytime soon. We're going to recap the day bullet style.
- Woke up to pouring rain. Had to get the little man motivated for his 1st day at his new preschool. Luckily the rain was tapering for the time being as we were heading to school. Took him inside because I had to deliver all of the goods on his school supply list and I knew he couldn't carry it. While walking down the hall of his preschool I hear a little girl his age telling a teacher, "...I went on a sleigh ride at the Country Club over break and we also had...at the Country Club." OK, my son was going to private school before and will continue until he graduates from HS but never in a million years did I think I would hear a 4/5 yr old talking about the Country Club.
- On to my next stop, to meet Lane so we could go down to an army post and get our insurance stuff updated so we can see doctors here. Well on the way there while traveling on I-285 which is the loop around ATL we got a flat tire. We pulled over and yes, it was flat as a pancake, just like the above picture depicts. (BTW, all photos in this blog entry were taken from Google Images, not my own.) Well, after some hemming & hawing, we came to the conclusion that it was not going to be a good idea for Lane to change the tire there. When you have semi-trucks flying by at nearly 70 MPH... So he got into the car and slowly with the sound of thump, thump, thump below us we got off to an exit ramp, which wasn't exactly ideal but we didn't have to worry about a whole lot of cars and trucks flying by. About an hr later we were back on our way.
- Get to the Army post. Lane is in uniform and hands the security guard his ID and the first thing out of the security guards mouth was, "Do you have a POV (privately owned vehicle) sticker for the car?" Lane's response was no because the Air.Force did away with them 18 months ago. Actually this is supposed to be military wide that there are no POV sickers being issued. The j*ckass tells Lane he has to do a U-Turn to get a visitors pass. WTF??? We've never had to do that before. Oh, and by the way they're going to go through your car and your stuff before they allow you on post. I was really pissed that they were treating an 18 yr veteran AF officer like this. I know they have to be cautious but please...there's not much on Army posts other than a bunch of dilapidated, ugly old buildings. It's not like they're harboring $48 million dollar or more airplanes like the AF. So we finally get on post and get business taken care of. Had to leave to go pick Eriks up from school.
- Due to the flat tire, I couldn't ride around on a donut for much longer so went to S.e.a.r.s to see if they could fix the tire and put it back on the car. Nope, tire was trash and 2 out of the other 3 were not safe to drive on. I knew that we would have to replace the tires this spring but I was hoping we could make it until March. Well $700 later I have 4 brand-spanking new tires on the Sienna.
- So the reason for the picture of the Black.berry is because Lane's getting one for work. He's been envious of my Black.jack. He's a geek and any gadget makes him like a kid in a candy store - must play with it now. The bad part of this is that since it's for work, it's called the "Crackberry". Why you wonder? Well everyone we know who's gotten one because of their AF job hates it. They hate it because it means that it can ring anytime of day or night the way a dealer's phone rings 24/7 when someone needs a "fix". I don't think it will be that bad because he's not a commanding officer and those guys are the ones who have more of the 24/7 issues. Trust me, I've heard the stories from my friend Cathy, whose husband is now retired, concerning the calls he was getting at all hours when he was in charge of the squadron we left in LR. And there were some stories!!
- House is still a slight mess. Luckily we'll be able to work on it tonight and hopefully start getting things up on the walls too. I'm hoping that I'll get around to posting some photos from the holidays.

Ahhh...I hope life DOES deliver you some peaches soon :0)
Good gravy girl! What a day you had!
Crazy thing - it hardly ever rains in GA!
I HATE I-285. I avoid it if at all possible...
I promise things will get better!
Sounds awful....I'm off to the Country Club for my hayride now.....;-)
Ugg! Sorry for the yucky day! I think I'm gonna go to the country club now for my latte and a rub down. ;)
sounds like a rough start but the good thing is new tires!!
Mmmm, country club. Sounds nice.
Thats funny that you got a flat tire...okay not funny, but on Jan. 1st I got one too...I had a nail in my back right tire...too bad they couldn't plug it up it had to be replaced completely....
Oh honey, that is not a good way to spend the first couple of days in your new town. Sorry to hear about your bad day. Isn't that just typical about the tires needing to be replaced at the worst possoble time? Ugh, at least now you should be set for a while.
I was sitting here shaking my head in agreement with you about the Blackberry. John has one for work as well and he hates it.
Hugs,
Jonni
