Last night was date night for Lane and me. Since our babysitter C is really not happy about us moving (her whole family is not happy to be exact - they're good friends) we've promised her that we're going to use her a few times a month until we do move. She loves Eriks like a brother and Eriks thinks she's his girlfriend.
So we went out to the west side where all the good restaurants are. We had decided to go to On the Bord.er but then changed our minds when we pulled up and saw more than a dozen people standing outside the restaurant waiting on tables. Rats!! So we then settled on a local Chinese place that I had been to with some friends and Lane had never been to. The waitstaff is super nice and the food is really good with plenty of leftovers thanks to generous portions.
After dinner was finished we headed over to B@bies R U$ to look at buying Eriks a backless booster for Lane's car. We have an Edd.ie Bau.er backed one for my car that we still use the 5-pt harness on. I'm milking that as long as I can since it keeps Eriks safe. Note to parents who will eventually need to move kids to a booster, we love this one and so does Eriks. Anyhow, back to my story. We were looking at the Gr@co backless booster and there was another couple looking at our backed booster for their son. They were deciding between 2 and asked there son which one he liked better. OK, that's not something I would do but anyhow, I interjected and said, "We have the Edd.ie Bau.er one for our son and he loves it." The gentleman goes back to talking with his son. I noticed that his son's name is Eric and tell him our son's name is Eriks too. The mom walks off with the kids in the buggy and we're grabbing the Gr@co backless for Eriks. The gentleman says, "If you have that that one (pointing to the EB seat), why are you buying that?" I told him that we had 2 cars and currently in Lane's car Eriks is still in a car seat. He's a few lbs over the weight limit and he's too tall for the seat. We really don't want to spend that kind of money on another one like the one that's in my car since we most offen drive my car. Plus when we travel and have to fly, it's easier to check a backless one.
It's easier for me to do this is how the rest of the conversation went...
Gentleman: "So how big and old is your son if you're buying him the backless one?"
Us: "He'll be 5 in December. He's like 42 lbs and 42 or 43 inches."
Gentleman: "He'll be 5 in December too. (pointing to his son) If you don't mind me asking what day is his birthday?"
Us: "He was born on the 17th."
Gentleman: "His birthday's on the 17th!!! Where was he born?"
Us: "Oklahoma, but not for long and then we lived in CA before moving here for his job." I didn't want to explain the whole adoption thing to a complete stranger at least with Eriks not with us.
Gentleman: "Oh, I thought maybe they had been at the same hospital. You said you were buying that more for travel than every day use. Are you going somewhere soon?"
Us: "Yes we are next month."
Gentleman: "You're not going to LA are you?"
Us: "Yes we are. He (pointing to Lane) has to go there to train for his new job."
Gentleman: "We are too. My wife has to do some job training and we decided to make it into a little bit of a vacation. You're not going to be there around the 17th are you?"
Us: "No not until the 22nd."
Gentleman: "It was nice talking to you."
Us: "Same. Enjoy your trip."
So we walked away and to the register and checked out. Now how unusual is that?? Not only is there son the exact same age as ours, but he's got the exact same name and they're heading to Cali.fornia almost at the exact same time we are.
The rest of our date was nice. We went to Bar.nes & Nob.le and wandered around a bit. Flipped the books that might be interesting to read. Checked out some magazines. Bought coffee and a big cupcake to split for dessert. Then came home.
I'm still waiting on questions from you devoted readers. I have 2 thus far and I'd like at least 10. So bring them on.

stuff like that is such a trip! You should have asked if they were adopting from China. LOL!
I have another question....how did Erics come into your life?
That is SO weird!!!!!
That is odd about that guy... oh don't worry about not 'visiting' sooner... I feel the same way... I get so busy too that I don't have a chance to drop by all the time... I can give you the award right now if you want it.. hehe... to many people to little awards... take care
That is such a coincidence!!
I have a few questions. How did you and Lane meet? And what are you studying in school and when will you be finished?
Twilight zone!
PS - yes, ye olde blog is ending now.
Tis craziness!
Sounds like you two had a great time. I would love to get out with my husband. Of course we love the book store.
??? Where do you see yourself and your family in 20 years???
My internet was down for awhile. I'm so far behind on blogs. It's going to take me awhile to catch up.
Here's a quick question....
What's your idea of a perfect day?
Not like "win the lottery fantasy" type of a day. But just a normal day in the life that you have. What would you be doing if you could plan your perfect day?
