Late Sunday Night Post

I have been catching up on my emails while I was away the past 4 days. I don't always pay attention to some of the things discussed on our agency's message board. It's hard to when you've got 100's of families that read and post. However a message caught my attention and I had to read it.

It was an article written by this sad excuse for a human being who like other media persons has gone along with the trend of saying that Asian adoptions are a "fashionable trend". Here's the link to the article so that you may all read it yourselves:

Adopting Asian kids becoming latest fad

With all the garbage going on about adoption, ie. the huge Tod@y Show debacle, I had to email the sad excuse for a human being. So here was my response to the "article" he wrote. And obviously I use that term VERY loosely.

I am way beyond appalled at your views of adoption. Adopting Chinese children is not a trend nor is it fashionable. If you were at all educated you would know that in China women are a devalued sex and therefore as babies many of them are abandoned. Would you rather they rot in orphanages??? Unlike here in the US where women suck their babies down the drain via abortion because that's more "fashionable" then say placing the baby with loving parents, many women in other areas of the world endure pregnancy and then give up their children because they have no means to care for them. They don't take the easy way out and have abortions.

This continues to my next point, you obviously have never adopted a child domestically or abroad because you are clueless as to how much people pay in fees to adopt. China adoptions are not the $30K to $40K range as you mention in your deplorable article. They are more in the $20K range if you had taken the time to do any amount of actual research. You also have no clue how much it costs to adopt a child of any race here in the US either. I am currently the mother of one adopted son who was adopted at the end of 2003. Our son was not dirt cheap as you tried to eloquently put it. My husband and I adopted a bi-racial (Black American - White American) child and all told our costs were in the $25K range. We've looked into multiple bi-racial and non bi-racial adoptions and to your dismay, I have even seen Black American baby adoptions in the $25K range. Many of the Latino adoptions we've looked into as well are in the $25K to $30K range. Like I said, you would know this if you had taken the time to do any amount of research.

Personally my opinion of you is that you yourself are a sexist, racist pig who has nothing good in his life and has nothing better to do than belittle your own wife and her choice of movies (my husband would never act that way towards your so called "chick flick") not to mention the people who endure years of trying to become parents by calling our choice a "fad".

Grow up and learn that there's more to life than slugging back beers, scratching yourself and acting like a kid in high school that is so bored with his own life that he has nothing better to do than put others down.

I thought I was polite despite the anger raging inside of me. I can't believe newspapers, magazine, TV, etc actually allow these people to write articles and actually publish them. Strike that, yes I can. It's better to write something so awful and relish in the hate mail than to write something good and relish in the positive responses.

Anyhow. Just wanted to let you all know I'm back and I'll catch up on blogs between cleaning, doing laundry, etc. Oh and saving for my $40K Chin@ adoption.

I read the article and I can't tell you how mad I am at this moment. I think your letter summed things up pretty well. I think in a very short time, this "man" will find out just how much families in the adoption community love our children and don't appriciate having our children compared to shoes.

People can be so stupid... my reason for adopting from China... after much research on alot of countries... this one was more 'stable'... our agency dealt with one country (another reason we picked China) and it didn't cost as much as the others and you only had to go to the country once... sure... it is longer then what we were hoping but there isn't anything that anyone can do about that... all good things come to those who wait... I am glad you wrote that letter... that guy sounded like a right knucklehead...
