Pearls, Jade & Teapots - Oh My!!!!

So one of the conversations going on within the CHI China message board is shopping and what to buy while you're in China. The talk has made me giddy with anticipation. Most people said they bought their daughters really nice strings of pearls (about $120US) to give to them on their wedding day. Would never have thought of that but now that I know... I guess there's also something called a wedding box that's like a 3-tier chest that people have bought. A lot of them talk about the jade and how beautiful it is. And teapots, lots of teapots and tea sets. I saw the ones last week that Martha Stewart bought when she was in China fairly recently. They were absolutely beautiful and had me saying to myself "I want those!"

A lot of people have also mentioned that they've had custom items made such as jackets, etc overnight and at cheap prices!! They say there are stores you can go into and pick out your silk fabrics and then the shops make them to be picked up the next day. Wish it was like that here and affordable!

Another big thing is Chinese artwork - paintings and silkscreens and even some drawings.

I've already started a list of things that Lane will have to buy in China and bring home for me. This is why they tell everyone to pack the minimum when you go so that you can buy lots of goodies and bring them home!!! I guess it's a good thing everyone is allowed 2 suitcases. Most people say they only take 1 and then buy a 2nd one for about $20US to bring back all the things they purchased.
