Dallas Recap

Ah, Dallas. It was a good weekend. Way too short though. On Saturday I tagged along with my SIL to her charity bingo function for DCAC (Dallas Children's Advoc@cy Center). It's a pretty awesome organization started by a former police officer that wanted to do something for children who had been both sexually and physically abused. Of course I didn't win any bingo games. I'm such an unlucky person. I did win something in the silent auction though and that made me happy. Not only because I got a deal but also because I knew the money was going to a good cause. There were other things I was bidding on but the bids got up above what I was willing to spend. So you want to know my win???? Well, Chuck E. Chee$e is a $5K supporter of DCAC and donate things to all of their fundraisers. Due to the fact that we're moving in December, right around Eriks birthday, I wanted him to have a fun birthday since we have to celebrate it about 2 weeks early. One of the silent auction items from C.E.C. was a birthday party for 20 kids - value of $250. I ended up paying $88 for it. I was willing to go up a little more but no one wanted to outbid me. Eriks doesn't know yet because if he did, he wouldn't stop talking about it until it happened. Depending on how things go, we may be having a birthday party for more than 20 kids. It all depends on how many of school friends and how many of his non-school friends come. Not a big deal.

After the bingo we went back to SIL's house to change clothes and then head to Su Vino Winery. For those who have been reading since last year, you will remember a post about us going to this winery to bottle our own wine. Knowing that we wouldn't get back to the winery any time soon we had to buy some staples that we love having in our wine rack before we moved. $100 later and several tastings later we headed to dinner.

Sunday I wanted to be a tourist. I used to live in TX and always wnated to do this so I finally begged and my wish was granted. So we headed to South.fork Ran.ch the famous filming location for the tv show Dalla$. All the inside shooting was done on sound stages in LA but all the outside shots were done at the ranch during the summer. It was pretty cool.

The statement that TV adds 10 lbs is very true in the case of the house. It looks about 3 times as large on TV as it does in person thanks to wide angle lenses. Oh and the scenes when they're swimming in the pool. What they did to the actors to make it look like they were swimming the length of an olympic size pool was they tied a tether around their waists and they were swimming in place and then after so many seconds they'd release or cut the tether and the actor would swim to the edge on the other side. Ah, the magic of TV.

Tommorrow I'll answer another question that was posed to me when I asked for them. I asked and I feel bad that it's taking me so long to answer them. I might answer a couple of them.
