What a Way to Start the Weekend

So I'm getting ready to start the day. Eriks has his yearly check up at 1 pm this afternoon and I wanted to get some stuff done around the house before we have to leave at 12:15. The phone rings and I answer it and it's an automated call from the Children's Place asking me to verify my billing address and to enter the zip code of my billing address. So I entered the zip for us here in AR twice and it says that address does not match what they have on file. So then I hit the # key to talk to a human. Once I do she asks for my social and my billing address. I give her both and she says that that's not the address they have on file for me. I told her the last address I had was a California address and gave it to her. She told me that was the one they still had on file. I said I couldn't remember when I moved here 2 yrs ago if I had updated it or not. I rarely use my store credit cards unless they're give me extra % or whatever. She then proceeds to tell me they have been trying to send me statements at that address and they are being returned. I think to myself, "What statements? I haven't used that damn card in a very long time, maybe since about the time I moved." Well she says that a purchase for $48 and change was made at a store in NJ on the 17th of October. Um, yeah. No where near NJ and I haven't been to NJ in 7 yrs. So I then had to talk to the fraud department which closed my account for me and put a fraud investigation into it. After I got of the phone with her, I went to our firesafe chest where we keep the few credit cards we have and all our important documents to see if it was in there. Sure enough, I unlock it and it's sitting right there with my Kohl's card and my Lane Bryant card. So then I'm like What the F***!!! How did someone get a card to use in a store in NJ????? It reminds me of how someone got Lane's debit card number last spring while it was still in his wallet and used it to charge $1000 worth of stuff out of our checking account.

I HATE identity thieves! I am thankful that the person didn't charge $100's of dollars but I'm just so sad that people feel like they they are entitled do this to someone else. I have outstanding credit and creeps like this go out of their way to try and mess it up. It's been years since we've been late on bills and we go out of our way to make sure that if we do charge anything, we come home and immediately pay it through our bank's billpay service. I never carry balances on my cards.

Tonight I will be running a free credit report check since I haven't done it since the fall of 2006 (I know mistake on my part). But the whole situation has me sad and angry. I am also thankful that we have identity theft insurance for this reason.

Hope everyone else's weekend doesn't start out the same way mine has.

eee gads! How scary. This is exactly the reason I have only one card and watch it like a hawk.

I hope your weekend improves and that Eriks appt went well. I need to find a Doctor for my little one. So much to do and so little time to do it.

You are the third person I know to have something like this happen to them. Some one stole a friend's debit number and charged $9 at a McDonalds in MEXICO!!

It's scary. So sorry it happened to you.
