CNY in Little Rock

Last Saturday we attended our first Chinese New Year celebration. It was put together by the Families With Children from China - Central Arkansas chapter. It was a lot of fun, although I really wish we would've been able to meet more families who are also waiting like we are or who have recently brought home children from China. There were so many little Chinese girls and a few boys too.

We had Chinese food catered by one of the local Chinese restaurants. Not my favorite place to eat around here, but the foods not bad. They had a China Store of all different types of things from China. I bought some Chinese bookmarks, some chopsticks, a key chain and something for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Eriks did the dragon dance with the other kids. They used bubble wrap for the kids to step on and make the firecracker noises. It was cute. Unfortunately, stupid me didn't even think to bring my camera. Eriks was included in the group photos of the kids, so we might look at getting one from the photographer that took the photos.

Looking at all those little girls made me very happy and made my heart break a little bit too. It made me happy because I know that my daughter is out there somewhere and she will be just as beautiful as all these other little girls I saw. But my heart broke a bit knowing that we have such a long wait still ahead of us and because we want this so much. And the realization that we most-likely would not have our daughter by the next Chinese New Year didn't make it any less difficult.

But for now, we're celebrating the year of the Golden Pig. Happy Chinese New Year!!!
